Parties

When’s the perfect time for a party? Anytime, of course.

Back to School
So you’ve been out of school for years. Why not turn back the clock and discover 16 again with a Back to School party? Decorate with textbooks, yearbooks and banners that say things like, "Biff Babbage for Student Council" and "Crush the Coolidge Cougars!" Have guests dress as they did back in their teens. Before the party, collect high school photos from each guest and make name badges featuring each guest's picture. Serve junk food, cafeteria-style. Spike the punch. Play music from the old days. Have the guests vote for awards like, "Most likely to succeed" and "Class Clown". Of course, you’ll have to select a Prom King and Queen. And the best part of all? No mid-terms.

Big Apple Party
Set the scene by decorating with fancy shopping bags, playbills and cut-outs of the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. Ask your guests to dress as famous New Yorkers, like Woody Allen, Donald Trump, or Yoko Ono. Rent a karaoke machine so guests can sing their favorite Broadway show tunes. Convert your backyard into Little Italy and serve pasta, pizza and tiramisu. At the end of the evening, hire some yellow cabs to take everyone home. Hey, who wouldn’t want to be a part of it?

Film Festival
Rent 3-4 movies with a particular theme — romance, animation, foreign, documentary, mystery, horror, etc. Invite the family or all of your friends over for a day of viewing, and ask everyone to come dressed as their favorite film character. Everyone casts their votes for best actor and actress, best accent, best kiss and any other fun categories that occur to you. Make sure you have plenty of comfortable seating and movie snacks, like popcorn, soda and candy. Please turn off all cell phones, and please, no making out in the balcony.

International Potluck
Ask all of your guests to bring dishes from a country they've visited or foods that reflect their heritage. Have everyone wear costumes or colors representing the country of their chosen cuisine. Music and decorations can reflect the international flavor of your gathering.
